Breaking the rules is about showing that nurses and midwives can lead the way to better care and better ways of working. Effective rules are not static — they evolve. But that evolution has to be driven by people who are willing to stand up for what is right, challenge the status quo and create a better future. Nurses and midwives can be these people. Please add your name and you plan for your Break the Rules session into the comments to claim your facilitators guide. Don't worry if you...

It’s 7 o’clock on a Friday night as I walk into a dimly lit room full of people sat in front of their respective computers, headsets on, ready for action. They have three or four monitors each and their eyes are darting across them all, swiftly scanning the screens, acknowledging the colour coding and assessing flashing boxes. It looks like some complex game of Tetris! But this is not a game. It is a 999 ambulance service Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). This one happens to be in the...

These are no ordinary athletes: they are transplant athletes, people who have received heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, small bowel and bone marrow transplants or are currently on dialysis as they wait for a new kidney. The  British Transplant Games  was first held in 1978 and is making its third return to the...

A hackathon is an event where people come together for a short period of time to collaborate on a practical project, build something to test and create breakthrough thinking.   This hackathon is virtual, meaning that the teams taking part won’t be in the same physical place as the other teams. They will be in their own locality so there is no need to travel. The teams will link with the hackathon using an online platform (for which support and training...

Every Director across each health and care economy should spend at least one day a week shadowing a nurse or a midwife to walk in their shoes for a few hours. This would help there to be a shared understanding of nurses and midwives: * decisions making skills, every minute of every shift * natural leaderships styles, to bring a team along with them and many more. Please add your story below:
