Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery

A little bit about me by Jessica Sainsbury

A little bit about me…

I am very proudly an Ambassador of Nursing as part of the Transforming Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery 30 day challenges run by NHS Horizons (@horizonsnhs). July’s challenge is to write a blog post to celebrate achievements and innovation in Nursing and Midwifery.

But, to take it that step further, the lovely Charlotte has challenged us all via @BloggersNurse to participate in a challenge every day during July. Now, that doesn’t necessarily have to be a blog every single day, it can be a vlog or a twitter post too – but by encouraging many of us to get involved in this challenge will raise the profile of Nursing and Midwifery significantly. We’re going to saturate Twitter with our Nursing hashtags – imagine if we could get up there with the likes of #LoveIsland one day this month?! The hashtags to look out for and utilise are #FutureNursing #NurseBloggers #30DayBloggerChallenge #FutureMidwifery – are you up for it?

Today is day 2, which calls for participants to share 20 facts about themselves. So here we go…

  1. I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was at college, so I got a job in Human Resources instead of going to University.
  2. Good job too as I started my family at 18 (oops!) – but no regrets here, the father of my children (9 years & 4 years) and I are happily married, we’ve been together for coming up for 12 years and been married for 6.
  3. I went back to that very same college to complete my Access to Nursing course 10 years after I left, and achieved 45/45 distinctions. I’m proud of myself for that.
  4. I have a chocolate Labrador called Bobby, he is my third child and he has the most expressive eyebrows you ever did see on a woofer.
  5. The beach is my happy place. I can’t go 6 months without driving the family down to Perranporth which is my all time favourite. We even got married near a beach (it was actually out on a pier, but close enough).
  6. My career aspiration at age 4 was to be a Lollipop Lady.
  7. I am obsessed with Florence Welch’s voice. I’ve seen her live numerous times now, and I’ll go see her again and again if given the chance.
  8. I am part English, Scottish, Welsh, and Jamaican.
  9. I have a rather large extended family, who I try to see as much as possible because they are flipping shamazing. Lots of driving involved there as we’re scattered around a tad.
  10. I love to meet new people and hear their stories, their expertise, and widen my circle. Yet when I’m ‘networking’ I feel so so nervous and sometimes even inadequate. Strange, huh?
  11. I’ve always liked to organise things, from the school Talent Show to #NHS70 tea parties.
  12. I have a bad case of resting b*tch face. I don’t mean it, I’m sorry, it’s just my face!
  13. I’m going to be a Macmillan Nurse eventually, supporting patients and their loved ones at the end of life is my calling.
  14. I LOVE Christmas. 176 days to go!
  15. Strawberries are my favourite fruit. They’re delicious, and they remind me of my Grandad.
  16. My daughter was born a year to the day from my Grandad passing away. Natural, spontaneous labour.
  17. When I’m under extreme stress, my skin reacts. I came out in hives following my Nan dying, and more recently my right hand has suffered significantly with cracked, yuckiness.
  18. Enough of the death and dying… Team Sainsbury are going to Disney World in 36 days (via Atlanta first!).
  19. I quite enjoy public speaking.
  20. I have a brother called Joe, I like to call him Broseph. I don’t tell him enough but he is awesome and I really wish we saw each other more.

Wow. That wasn’t easy! Although now I think I could carry on with the list. I’ll be looking out for everyone else’s 20 facts posts!

Jess xoxo
