Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery

Breaking the Rules: August 30 Day Challenge

Breaking the rules is about showing that nurses and midwives can lead the way to better care and better ways of working. Effective rules are not static — they evolve. But that evolution has to be driven by people who are willing to stand up for what is right, challenge the status quo and create a better future. Nurses and midwives can be these people.

Please add your name and you plan for your Break the Rules session into the comments to claim your facilitators guide. Don't worry if you still thinking about as we can help you!

Despite an ageing population, nursing older people, as a specialty, remains an unattractive career option. Look at this bunch of renegades all ready to start
‘breaking the rules’ via Ambassador Lesley Bainbridge. On September 4th she will blast-off her army of Ambassadors of Nursing Older People at the Integrated Care System launch of the North East and Cumbria’s regional Frailty Network. Even with a full appreciation of the need for multidisciplinary team working in order to deliver optimum care for older people; there isn't anywhere like older people’s services for nurses to shine. #nursinghasthenumbers

I would like to improve perceptions of research nursing and what a fabulous career choice it is. Still need to think about breaking the rules though, but excited to give it a go.

Knowing what matters to patients really is the key. Honest feedback from patients will be transformative to nursing. Patients and nurses working together equally and collaboratively is the Holy Grail. Saving lives is crucial and totally amazing for patients. Explaining why and what’s happening is a usp for nurses. Saving lives and truly taking the time to know what matters to patients is EVERYTHING. Treat patients like you would want your Grandma nursed. Top tip: click the eye colour of your patients to remember to always engage compassionately?

We have ran a really interesting breaking the rules session, dispelled a myth about nurse referrals but the main rules that our nurses feel restrained by are legislative, such as being unable to sign fit notes despite being able to examine, diagnose, prescribe,

Hi Bev, posters, visitors, All! Can I also have a pack please Bev? I am aiming to use this to frame opportunities for change in the context of our integrated sexual and reproductive health and HIV service. Could prove very empowering among a team with ideas wanting to take the next step.

I'm a little excited to have had a light bulb moment. I have struggled to get engagement from my trust. So i have contacted a local lead I have in a University Faculty of Health and I am going try to hold a breaking the rules session to a group of student nurses and midwives to light their fires now and harness that into qualifying. Wish me luck.
