Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery

Use the "5 Whys" technique to understand the true reasons why young people aren't choosing nursing & midwifery as careers

I really appreciate all the fantastic ideas that people are posting on this website and hope that many more will be posted. It is also making me think that we need to understand what are the real, deep issues rather than the surface issues.

I read a fantastic article on Twitter today. It was about using a quality technique called the Five Whys to understand the root causes of why it is hard to recruit STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) teachers. Here is the article: https://www.inc.com/greg-satell/this-producti...thing-else.html

We should consider using the same technique to assess all the ideas that are coming into this website.

Interesting article and certainly food for thought.

Interesting idea - this would work as a visual too: many young people still have the gender stereotypes embedded, we should consider working earlier with young people, pre-high school to 13 is the best time due to the brain development spurts, making this an ideal opportunity for behaviour change and discussing career options!
