Take a commissioner to work day

Why not invite a service commissioner to see you and/or your team in action? Let them see your daily challenges and hear your ideas, get to know them and build relationships.

Thank you Zara - i like this idea. how can we ensure its meaningful shadowing for learning and appreciating each others roles?

I feel that we are sometimes so busy in our day to day work that we miss the view of others. We attend meetings and listen to each other’s views, but I feel shadowing could take this up a level, building bridges and understanding of roles and challenges. Understanding can only lead to better relationships.

Great idea and also chief Execs - we have been encouraging school nurses and health visitors to invite their council members to shadow them so they can find out more about public health nursing

The possibilities are endless, getting decision makers to see the heart of the service, to see the challenges and innovative ideas. I believe that if we talked to each other more we’d gain so much. I think the idea of council members shadowing school nurses and health visitors is a great idea, supporting collaborative working and productive working relationships.

Hi we do have to endure this is two way - it's about frontline staff Aldo understanding the challenges facing decision makers too, clear understanding of both perspective could help improve outcome and shared agendas

I have offered my commissioner some education. She is sitting in a lot of meetings making decisions about diabetes services without a good understanding of the condition. We are trying to set a date for this. Shared learning about each other’s roles could be built into contracts.
It’s important that we trust and understand each other so the system can work effectively.
