Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery

Nursing is for girls!

The idea of nursing (and midwifery) needs to move into the 21st century: anyone (female or male), with a desire to truly make a difference at the beginning , middle or end of life should be inspired to step forward into their light. Let’s strip away stereotypes and labels, and value nursing (in all its glorious facets) as a fully inclusive human vocation! I love the photo of a female nurse  inspiring  a young girl- what about a male nurse inspiring a young boy to become a male nurse?

Thank you Mark, completely agree - we will be refreshing the pictures during the campaign to reflect the conversation using images from Trusts rather than stock pictures. Please do share any images you have too. i wonder though Mark whether a female who is maybe a teacher inspiring a young boy to become a nurse would be helpful too?

Thanks, Mark I agree with you, how do you think we can best do this? It would be great to see this idea develop.

I will post a tweet asking male colleagues to share some images which we can then use on the site.

I'm thankful to work alongside some fabulous male and female mental health nurses and absolutely agree that both should be reflected in nursing advertisements : )
