Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery

The why of nursing

I think we should understand why people went into nursing and use this information to support nursing training and messaging to school children.

great idea Kate - I also think we should hear from nurses of all ages - what's different today from say 35 years ago if anything.

I think the expectations of what a nurse does or can do are massively skewed.

Love this idea Kate and if we could also get more men involved it could help address some of the gender stereotypes we still frequently see and hear! I was messaged via Twitter recently by a male nurse colleague telling me that fellow students laughed when his daughter said that her dad was a nurse! Selling the profession to school children is going to be a key activity to address the future image of nursing and attract the future workforce. Some great comments to this tweet I issued some time back. https://twitter.com/JamieWaterall/status/935457159931973633

I agree. We need to sell better the positive side of Nursing. What I love of being a Nurse is that you can be anything you want to be. The possibilities are endless.

I love your idea - have you seen my post about plotting your nursing journey, as nurses and midwives we perhaps don't often think outer journey is special but when you sit down and talk to others you realise the uniqueness!
